April 29, 2006 - Game Day at Chris’s House in Milw.

On Saturday Andrew and I (Zac could not make it) went to a friends house in Milwaukee to do some serious gaming.  Another friend Brian was able to play part of the day and Chris’s kids, Steven and Tyler joined in. Sarah even played Ticket to Ride later in the day.  It was going to be a GOOD DAY to game.

We started off with a new game for Andrew and I, “Colossal Arena”  by Fantasy Flight Games.  Basically you have several mythical creatures fighting it out in an Arena and you place an influence marker on who you think will be the last creature to survive.  The players then play cards to give them power and the weakest is removed at the end of the round.  Then you go thru the cycle of placing another influence marker, placing power cards on the creatures and removing the weakest until only one remains. We played 2 games and Andrew won the 1st game with Chris coming in 2nd.  Andrew and Brian got ganked in the 2nd because some creatures that they had a lot of influence on got eliminated early and Chris won the 2nd game with Steven coming in 2nd.

Next we played 2 games of “Bang - Dodge City”.  Andrew was the Sheriff in the 1st game and his Deputy was Steven.  Brian and Tim were Outlaws and Chris was the Renegade. Well, the Sheriff won.  The 2nd game had Steven as the Sheriff and Andrew was his Deputy, Chris and Tim were outlaws and Brian was the Renegade. This time it turned out differently and the Outlaws won.

Chris, Steven and Andrew during our “Ticket to Ride - Marklin” game

After being gunslingers in the old west it was now time to do some Dungeon Crawling.  Brian was going to be the Dungeon Master for a D&D Miniatures session he had. Andrew played a Rogue, Chris was a Sorcerer, I was a Cleric and Steven and Tyler were our BRUTE force and I do mean BRUTE and FORCE, as fighters. It was a very interesting session and I wish I had taken some pictures.

We had to find out what was going on in an Abandoned Castle because the local inhabitants of a village were disappearing.  Our fighters were very ambitious and in the middle of EVERY fight, in fact on a couple of occasions they went out looking for it (a little to aggressive).  The fighters got there moneys worth from the Cleric (me) because I was constantly healing them.  Steven and Tyler’s characters were at deaths door on more then one occasion.  Chris’s sorcerer was doing his part to whittle down the enemy with magic and Andrew’s rouge was sneaking around back stabbing when he could.  In the end we killed the big bad evil person and saved the villagers!!

Brian had to leave after the D&D game and our next game was “Ticket to Ride - Marklin” so Sarah jumped in to take Brian’s place.  It was a brutal and vicious game, thanks mainly to Andrew.  When he found out that he was not going to complete his Long tickets he set out to make life miserable for everybody else.  Some how I lucked out and he never cut me off.  Poor Sarah on the other hand had several routes cut off by Andrew and others.  (NOTE TO SELF:  Be sure to include stations when we want the game to be nice and friendly).  I ended up winning with Chris and Steven coming in 2nd and 3rd.  Andrew managed to set a NEW LOW SCORE that I doubt will ever be beaten.

Sarah bowed out after “Ticket to Ride” so then we moved on to “Doom: The Boardgame”.  Andrew was the Invader and Chris, Steven and I were the Marines.  We played the scenario “Blood in the Shadows” and there was plenty of marine blood spilled.  We died way too many times and ran out of time.

I don’t think we even got half way thru the mission when our time ran out.  The Invader Wins again and humanity is DOOMED!

Things were winding down and it was late so we decided to play a light game.  Chris brought out the card game ”Loot”.  This is a game were you try to capture the most merchant ships with your pirates or by avoiding the pirates.  We played 2 games and Tyler smoked us all in the 1st game.  I know he played this before and he was pretty good.  I barely edged out Andrew for a win in the second game.  I enjoyed this game so much that I bought a copy before our trip to the WI Dells in June.

I know that Andrew and I had a great time and I am pretty sure that everybody else did also.  I just wish that I had taken more pictures especially of the D&D miniatures game.   I am starting to learn how to use the Digital Cameras, take LOTS of pictures and sort them out later.

We have another Game Day planned for August 12th, same weekend as GenCon.  Zac will not make it (he is going to GenCon) but maybe Andy will make the one on the August 12th.  I know that I am looking forward to it.
